Milford Regional Adds New Physician To Thoracic Surgery Team

MILFORD, MA- Milford Regional Medical center is welcoming Matthew Rochefort as the newest physician to join the Brigham and Women’s Thoracic Surgery practice. He is joining Dr. Brian Whang and Physician Assistant Chris LeSiege who has been a part of the practice since its inception.

Dr. Rochefort graduated from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2009 and did a residency in general surgery and a research residency in surgical oncology at the University of California Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine. He also did a residency in thoracic surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is board certified in surgery and is an instructor in thoracic surgery at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Rochefort brings his expertise to an already skilled and experienced team. Dr. Whang is board-certified in thoracic surgery and has been with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and taught surgery at Harvard Medical School since 2013. He graduated from the State University of New York, Downstate College of Medicine in 2001, and did residencies in general surgery at New York Medical College, Westchester Medical Center, and in cardiothoracic surgery at Yale University School of Medicine, Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Physician Assistant Chris LeSiege has supported thoracic and general surgery at Milford Regional since 2002. He received his master’s degree in medical science and physician assistant certificate from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. In 2009, he worked with Brigham and Women to develop the physician assistant program at the outpatient surgery center at Patriot Place before returning to Milford in 2010.

The team treats a variety of conditions including lung and esophageal cancer, infectious problems, swallowing problems, stomach and esophagus issues, lung collapses and hiatal hernias. They offer innovative and minimally invasive surgical treatments as well as traditional surgical procedures. Depending on the diagnosis, other treatments might include radiation, chemotherapy, ablation therapy, freezing, immunotherapy, or watchful waiting.
