Background: Jasmine was born outside in a cat colony. Her mother was 100% feral and had had multiple litters before Jasmine came along. Her mother has since been spayed along with all of the males in the colony who were neutered thanks to BSAC. Jasmine and all of the other female cats were affectively being raped by the males in the colony, if we had not gotten her when we did she would have been pregnant by spring. Jasmine’s back left foot is a club foot so she cannot be released back into the colony.
Day 1: Jasmine arrived at 3:00pm Wednesday February 12. She was scared and stayed in her litter box until she used it that night.
Day 2: I woke up to see Jasmine on the towel in her cage and not in the litter anymore. Once I cleaned the litter she moved right back into it. She sniffed my hand when I reached it out to her and was calmer than the day before. We put a box with a blanket in her cage to encourage her to stay out of the litter.
Day 3: Jasmine played with a feather toy when I tried to play with her. She was sitting in the box with a blanket when I woke up. I put her food just outside the cage door and she came out and ate when no one was watching. She meowed at night for us to come out to the kitchen, and then proceeded to walk around the kitchen and explore her surroundings.
Day 4: We learned that Jasmine is not a morning cat, she growled when we tried to get near her and was not eating her food while we were out in the kitchen. She became a different cat at night meowing for us to come out there and rolling around in the box with the blanket.
Day 5: I added a new bed to Jasmine’s cage, she did not like it at all. We switched back to the box with the blanket. At night I reached out my pointer finger and she touched it with her foot. She then proceeded to roll around in her litter.
Day 6: Again, Jasmine is not a morning cat. She ate food off a spoon when I held it out to her but when I tried to give her more she growled. She rolled around in her litter at night again looking very cute while doing so.
Day 7: We left the cage open overnight and Jasmine was in a crate that was on top of her cage. We did not know she could jump that high and it was a very happy moment. I left to go to the store and she moved into the new bed across the way from her cage.
