NORWOOD, MA — A Norwood woman needs help finding a new kidney.

Becky Owens recently found out that she has a kidney disease and is in need of a transplant. While dialysis is an option, her doctors recommend a new kidney. Now, she is going to social media to help find a transplant.

"This is not something that I talk about and do not want to make every conversation about my kidney's, but the fact is that I need a kidney transplant. I am not one to share any of my health struggles, and asking anyone to help is not easy for me, but it is critical that I find a donor as soon as possible," Owens wrote on her Facebook page "Brayden's Mom Becky Needs a Kidney."

Owens told the Norwood Transcript and Bulletin that she began feeling unwell during the summer and learned after a number of tests that her kidney function had dropped to less than 15 percent. She currently requires dialysis treatments three times a week for 4 hours a visit to keep her kidneys functioning normally.

According to her website, finding a donor is quite difficult. The kidney transplant waiting list has 10,000 people waiting for a kidney from a deceased donor and the average wait time is 5 years.
