Somerville Offering Free Emergency Preparedness Courses Throughout 2026
The program is the first of its kind for the Office of Emergency Management.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The city’s Office of Emergency Management has put together a series of emergency preparedness courses for residents that spans throughout the next eight months.
The Preparedness and Resiliency Through Neighborhood Engagement and Readiness is launching later this month with its first two inaugural sessions on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and Thursday, Feb. 19. The first class, which is being held at the Somerville Council on Aging on 167 Holland St., is geared toward seniors and will focus on the importance of emergency contact information cards and having an emergency kit. The second workshop is scheduled to take place at the Somerville Central Library on 79 Highland Ave., which focuses on family preparation for unexpected situations.
“Preparing for emergencies and disasters can seem like a big undertaking and might be worrisome to have to think about, but it’s important to be as ready as we can be for the unexpected,” OEM Director Bill Fisher said. “The PARTNER Program is designed to make it easy for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and vulnerable populations to build skills and confidence in their own emergency preparedness.”
