Somerville Residents Displaced After House Fire
The fire broke out in the middle of the night this past Saturday.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Multiple residents have been displaced in the aftermath of a residential fire that took place this past weekend, according to the Somerville Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze on 26 Summer St. at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7. The department said crews encountered heavy flames emanating from the basement upon arrival, and it was soon discovered that the flames had spread up to at least one room on the first floor. Two occupants were inside the house at the time of the incident, but were able to evacuate safely. No injuries have been reported.
According to the department, the basement of the two and a half story single family home sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage. The first floor sustained damage as well, but to a lesser degree of the basement where the flames originated. Somerville fire says the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
