Concord Police: Alleged drunk driver repeatedly asks officer: "Why won't you tell me why I'm here?" Doctor arrested for conduct after crash.

CONCORD, NH - Michael Cummings, 46, pictured, of Beacon Street in Concord, was arrested on Jan. 11, 2016, for simple assault, domestic violence-simple assault, and two felony counts of convicted felons (possession knife/cutting instrument). An officer met with a woman who filed a complaint with police about an alleged assault incident on Beacon Street around 11 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2016. The woman alleged that she missed a call from Cummings while she was out shopping and when she returned home, he allegedly “began arguing with her” about relationship issues. During the argument, he allegedly grabbed her phone and threw it at her, striking her in the chest, according to a court affidavit. She warned police about potential weapons in the home – including a sword. After looking into his previous criminal record – including a criminal threatening conviction out of Hillsborough County Superior court in November 2002 – they went to the home to speak to Cummings at just before 2 a.m. He allegedly told police that when she wouldn’t give him the phone so he could inspect calls on it, he grabbed it. He reportedly stated that he later pushed her away and threw the phone back at her. Police asked about weapons and he allegedly denied there were any weapons in the house. When asked about a sword, Cummings allegedly admitted there was one in the closet. An officer also allegedly found a pair of metallic knuckles with a collapsible blade in his jacket pocket, according the court affidavit. He was arrested and held on $5,000 cash bail.
