An officer was called to the Best Western on Hall Street for a report of possible counterfeit money being passed at the hotel. The manager stated that a guest – Putnam – allegedly passed the phony money and the bank had confirmed it so he called police. The bills, 13 $20 bills, according to he arrest report, all had the same serial number. The officer went to speak to the man in the hotel room who reportedly told the officer he received the money after being paid to do a roofing job. “I asked (him) if he knew the money had been counterfeit,” the officer alleged, “(he) said he did not know it was counterfeit but (he) was not surprised by it either.” The man allegedly denied any knowledge that the money was fake. While speaking with him, the officer saw a debit card on the hotel bed with the name “Kyle Putnam” on it. A check with dispatch confirmed a warrant out of Concord District Court on a driving after revocation or suspension charge and another one out of Franklin District Court for nonpayment of child support.
