Barnstead Cop Charged With Child Endangerment
A police officer from Barnstead is facing assault and child endangerment charges after a state police investigation.
Joan F. Glancy, 40, of Hartshorn Road in Barnstead, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 27 on felony witness tampering, domestic violence-simple assault, and two endangering the welfare of a child charges. She was arrested in Alton.
According to a court complaint, on March 1, Glancy was accused of instructing a child to run around the exterior of a house without shoes, socks, or pants for an extended period, causing significant injuries to the child’s legs and feet. She was also accused of placing her hand on the child’s head, pushing and holding it underwater. Glancy was accused of holding the child’s head underwater as “a form of punishment,” according to the complaint. The felony charge was an accusation Glancy instructed a second child to have the first child “to get her story straight,” knowing the child who was assaulted had made direct reports to NH DCYF about the abuse, the complaint said.
A warrant was issued for her arrest on Oct. 25. Glancy was arrested and held on preventive detention. After her video arraignment and bail hearing on Oct. 28, she was released on personal recognizance and ordered to have no contact with the children and five others.
A “criminal conviction packet” was mailed to the State of NH Police Standards and Training Council. Glancy was hired on May 14 by the town of Barnstead to be a police officer, according to board minutes.
A probable cause hearing was held on Nov. 20, a case summary document stated.
