CONCORD, NH — Interstate 95 was closed for five hours last week after a multi-vehicle crash in Greenland, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Around 9:15 p.m. on Nov. 20, troopers who were nearby were sent to the area of Mile Marker 10.8 for a report of a crash on both sides of the highway. The troopers immediately requested EMS and began aiding crash victims, Tyler Dumont, a public information officer for the department, said. Police from Greenland, Hampton, Portsmouth, and Seabrook, as well as fire and rescue teams from Greenland, Newington, North Hampton, and Portsmouth also arrived. The department’s collision analysis and reconstruction unit also assisted and investigated.

Thomas J. Daneault, 26, of Merrimack, was accused of driving a 2017 Volkswagen Golf and rear-ending a 2022 Toyota 4Runner being driven by Adam A. Woods, 29, of Ipswich, Massachusetts. Woods then veered off to the right side of the highway before stopping on an embankment.

“Daneault then reversed direction and started driving northbound when his Volkswagen got rear-ended by a 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI,” Dumont said.

The driver of the GTI was Christopher J. Dimare, 49, of Portsmouth.

Daneault’s car then spun into the center of the road and he was thrown from his car. The VW then caught on fire and eventually became fully engulfed in flames.

“Dimare veered his Volkswagen off the right side of the road and struck several trees in the woods next to the interstate,” Dumont said.

Daneault and Dimare were both taken to the hospital with injuries. Woods and another passenger in the Toyota were checked but were not injured.

Northbound traffic was diverted off at Exit 2 in Hampton while southbound traffic was sent off Exit 3 in Portsmouth.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation.

Concord Airport Plane Crash Update

State police released the name of the pilot involved in a crash on Nov. 20.

Dana Clow, 71, of Hillsborough, was not hurt in the crash after losing control of his two-seat experimental light-sport aircraft.

“Based on information obtained in the preliminary investigation, shortly after takeoff, one of the plane’s doors opened and the pilot was unable to close it,” Dumont said. “Due to the open door, the pilot reported the aerodynamics of the plane were compromised and forced the plane into a perpetual left turn. However, the pilot was able to fly the plane over the airfield and eventually made an emergency landing in a grassy area north of a taxiway. The aircraft’s landing gear was damaged during the landing.”
