CONCORD, NH — Two of the three candidates on the ballot for the Zone C SAU 8 board of education seat participated in a debate about issues facing the Concord School District.

Incumbent Brenda Hastings, a former elementary school teacher, is finishing her first term on the board. She is being challenged by Kassey Cameron, a parent with two children in the district, as well as Peter Surmanis, another parent in the city. Due to an unforeseen emergency, Surmanis could not attend the event.

Cameron and Hastings spoke about the new middle school project, how to contain the $100 million annual budget of the district, whether there should be a dress code for educators and employees, what qualities they would seek in a new school superintendent if the position becomes open, whether the middle school should have a school resource officer, how to improve the outcomes for students, and other issues.
