CONCORD, NH — A man from Hampton was arrested on Oct. 24 after a chase by both New Hampshire and Maine state police.

Around 11:50 p.m., New Hampshire state troopers were told about a chase involving the driver of a 2013 Nissan Altima on Interstate 95 south in Maine. Not long after the driver crossed into New Hampshire, a trooper spotted the car in Hampton. The trooper accused the driver, identified later as Andrew McInnes, 42, of Hampton, of “traveling recklessly, over 100 mph.” The trooper attempted to stop the car, but state police accused McInnes of failing to pull over.

A chase then ensued, they said.

“During the pursuit, the driver of the Nissan continued to speed excessively and failed to stay in one lane,” state police said. “He exited I-95 onto Route 101 westbound, and the pursuit continued through several towns.”

More troopers, along with police from Candia, successfully deployed tire deflation devices as the pursuit continued into Candia.

“Despite having deflated tires, the driver continued onto I-93 southbound, and eventually onto I-293 northbound in Manchester,” state police said. “Shortly after, the driver struck a guardrail, stopped, then ran from the car.”

A trooper and their K-9 partner, “Soka,” captured McInnes.

McInnes was arrested on two counts of felony reckless conduct-deadly weapon, aggravated driving while intoxicated, DWI, disobeying an officer, conduct after an accident, willful interference with police dogs, resisting arrest, driving after suspension, reckless driving, and disorderly conduct. He was hospitalized for evaluation due to possible injuries. McInnes refused bail, was taken to the county jail, and was due to be arraigned in Brentwood District Court on Oct. 26.

Along with troopers from outside Troop A, police from Epping, Raymond, and Candia police departments, and members of the Manchester Fire Department assisted.

Elderly Driver Dies In Marlborough

State police are investigating a fatal crash that shut down Route 12 in Marlborough for about five and a half hours around 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 14, in the area of Webb Depot Road.

Troopers responded to a report of a serious crash and found two vehicles involved, a 2019 Ram ProMaster van and a 2021 Nissan Rogue. Both vehicles were on fire when troopers arrived, according to state police.

A preliminary investigation determined the Rogue was traveling southbound on Route 12 when it veered into the northbound lane. State police reported the driver of the Ram made an evasive maneuver by swerving left. At the same time, the Nissan driver swerved back to correct course, resulting in a head-on collision, according to state police.

State police identified the Rogue driver as Donald C. Garfield, 80, of Jaffrey. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.

The driver of the Ram was identified as Jose Manuel Camacho Quintana, 33, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. State police said a Good Samaritan helped Camacho Quintana out of the vehicle after the crash.

Police said officers from the Troy and Swanzey police departments arrived first and used fire extinguishers to control the vehicle fires. Multiple Good Samaritans also assisted by locating and bringing additional fire extinguishers to the scene, according to state police.

Additional responders included troopers from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, along with members of the Marlborough, Swanzey, and Troy police and Keene and Marlborough firefighters, Cheshire County EMS and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Paul Bergeron at 603-223-3879 or paul.j.bergeron@dos.nh.gov.
