Sobriety Checkpoint Coming to NH in Mid-August

Troopers and local police will host this checkpoint during the weekend of Aug. 19, according to an alert.

SALEM, NH — The New Hampshire Department of Safety has issued an alert letting the public and press know that another sobriety checkpoint will be held later this month in the Salem area, according to a press statement.

Colonel Robert Quinn, director of the New Hampshire State Police, and Chief Paul Donovan of the Salem Police Department announced that during the weekend of Aug. 19, 2016, State Police Troopers from Troop B in Bedford and officers of the Salem Police Department will conduct the checkpoint.

“The checkpoint is authorized by the Rockingham County Superior Court, and will be conducted under guidelines promulgated by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office,” according to a statement from Sgt. Steven Callinan of the NHSP. “The New Hampshire State Police and the Salem Police consider the identification and apprehension of impaired drivers and enforcement of the driving while intoxicated statutes to be a top priority. Sobriety checkpoints are one of the best methods of deterring the impaired driver.”
