Seven Arrested During New Hampton Sobriety Checkpoint

Nearly 400 vehicles stopped by New Hampshire State Police this weekend on Route 104.

NEW HAMPTON, NH – Nearly 400 people were stopped and seven arrested during a sobriety checkpoint in New Hampton this weekend, according to state police.

The sobriety checkpoint – which ran from 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016, through 2 a.m. on June 19 – checked 398 vehicles along Route 104, near the Route 104 diner.

Three people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: Jaimie Kierstead, 48, of Dublin; Diane Nickerson, 49, of Rockland, MA.

Kathy Kelty, 34, of Berlin, VT; Stephen Kelty, 32, of Barre VT; and Kollin Witham, 19, Barre, VT; were all arrested for transportation and/or possession of drugs.

One teen – Benjamin Evans, 19, of Barre, VT – was arrested for transportation of alcoholic beverages by a minor.

All arrests were made without incident.

The subjects arrested for the offense of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol were released on bail with a court date of June 27, in the 4th Circuit-District Division-Laconia Court. All other arrests were released on bail with a court date of Aug. 25, in the 4th Circuit-District Division-Laconia Court.

In a statement, Sgt. Victor Muzzey of the NHSP, said the department was committed to utilizing the sobriety checkpoints to deter and arrest intoxicated driver.

“New Hampshire has some of the most aggressive laws in the country to fight the intoxicated driver and we are dedicated to using those tools to ensure safe travel throughout the state,” he noted.
