Police Urge Residents To Be Cautious Of Potential Burglars
Question the validity of the problem, keep doors locked and never let someone inside a home, police said.

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — Police are reminding residents to be cautious when strangers knock on their doors, saying there is a problem at the home they need to look at.
Questioning the validity of the problem and keeping doors locked are also very important steps in keeping intruders and burglars out of one's home, police said.
It is those things that kept a potentially bad situation from becoming worse when two men tried to run the scam on an elderly Saddle Brook woman Thursday.

One man made up a fake story about the woman needing to check her water connection while another tried to enter her home using the back door. The woman became suspicious about the problem and called the police department while the men were still at the house. They quickly left while she called police.

"These basic actions prevented her from becoming a victim of a home burglary and even bigger potential for being assaulted or worse," said Chief Robert Kugler.
Police ask residents to keep their doors and windows locked, never to let anybody into their homes and always ask people for credentials. Residents should report any suspicious activity by calling the police department at 201-843-7000.
