8 Bergen County Towns Named Safest in America - Is Yours On The List?
Annual report uses crime data to analyze lowest danger rates across the country. Westwood and Hillsdale are on the list.

Claiming you live in one of the safest towns in America is a pretty bold statement, but one that results in high property values and less stress.
Safewise.com recently announced its top 100 safest cities in the country with populations over 10,000 residents, and listed a slew of New Jersey municipalities. Eight Bergen County municipalities made the list.
- Wyckoff is ranked 29th. The Wyckoff Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse works to eradicate drug and alcohol abuse in the community. There are 0.87 violent crimes reported and 4.60 property crimes per 1,000 people in the borough.
- Coming in at 49th is Westwood. The borough puts a healthy emphasis on volunteerism, the rankings said. Residents are actively encouraged to actively participate on committees, boards, and as emergency service personnel. There are 0.18 violent crimes and 5.15 property crimes reported per 1,000 people.
- Hillsdale is ranked 68th. Every police officer is equipped with basic emergency medical equipment and training since Sueprstorm Sandy blew through in 2012. Officials use Twitter to quickly communicate with residents during emergencies. There are 0.22 violent crimes and 5.85 property crimes reported per 1,000 people.
- Oakland is ranked 89th with 0.15 violent crimes and 6.18 crimes per 1,000 residents.

It should be noted that a number of New Jersey towns were not considered because of their under-10,000 population.
Information for Safewise.com’s rankings was collected from recent FBI crime statistics and “paired the data with our own research,” the website said.
Do you think these eight towns are deserving of making the list? Should there be more? Less? Tell us in the comments.
