Bergen County Pair Arrested on Child Abuse Charges

The man and woman from Englewood allegedly struck an 8-year-old child and caused bruising to the child's face and legs.

Two Bergen County residents were arrested Tuesday as a result of a child abuse investigation.

Erika Luna, 31, and Israel Diaz-Garcia, 29, both of Englewood, were arrested after a social worker at a school learned the pair had allegedly struck an 8-year-old child and caused bruising to the child’s face and legs, according to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

The child was interviewed by a detective from the Special Victims Unit at the Audrey Hepburn Children’s House in Hackensack and provided specific details regarding being struck by Luna and Diaz-Garcia several times in the face and legs causing the aforementioned bruising.

Luna and Diaz-Garcia were charged with one count each of endangering the welfare of a child.

Bail was set at $75,000 each with no ten percent option and no contact with the victim as a condition of bail.

Luna and Diaz-Garcia were both remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

It is not known how the pair are related to the child.
