Bergen County Woman Arrested for Striking 2-Year-Old with Belt 'Several Times'

The boy's daycare called authorities after observing bruises on the boy's legs.

A Bergen County woman was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child.

Mynasia Petty, 23, of Lodi was arrested Monday for allegedly striking a 2-year-old boy “several times on his legs with a belt, causing significant bruising,” Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

Staff members at the boy’s daycare observed the bruising and contacted the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P). DCP&P then contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, which, along with detectives from the Lodi Police Department, made arrangements for the child to be examined at the Audrey Hepburn Children’s House in Hackensack.

Petty was charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Bail was set at $100,000 with no ten percent option and no contact with the victim as a condition of bail. Petty was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
