On Saturday
April 5, 2014 the Westwood chapter of UNICO National will host its annual “Fight Autism” Taste of Italy dinner at the Westwood Community Center, 55
Jefferson Ave, at 5pm. The chapter has sponsored this dinner for the past four years in furtherance of putting “service above self.” The dinner will consist of delicious
selections of Italian cuisine from local area restaurants.
Over 220 business leaders, philanthropists, and county residents are expected to participate and to mark April as Autism Awareness Month. Autism, a life-long developmental disability, affects approximately 1 out of every 110 children nationally. The disability poses challenges not only for the families it touches directly, but for the community at large as the costs involved to care for those affected continues to rise. Governmental and medical authorities have concluded that early science-based educational intervention has been effective in treating children with autism. With the proper intervention close to half can attend regular classes at their neighborhood schools.
The proceeds from the dinner and associated charity auction will support the education of children with autism in our communities, and also other charities designated by Westwood UNICO. Besides the food, the event will be marked by tricky tray & other raffles, games for the children, and other entertainment.
