📰 News we're reading

• Gas leak causes evacuation of Mount Kisco schools (therecorder.org) — Students from Bedford Central's Mount Kisco Elementary and Hillside School were evacuated to Fox Lane High School after a construction crew struck a high‑pressure gas line, sending fumes toward both campuses. Streets were closed while firefighters, police, and Con Edison secured the leak, and classes resumed later that day after officials confirmed buildings were safe and praised staff for following emergency plans.

• St. Mary's Katonah subdivision draws intense opposition (therecorder.org) — A recent Zoning Board of Appeals decision in Katonah approved setback variances needed for St. Mary's Church to subdivide its Valley Road property, a move governed by Town of Bedford rules. Neighbors worry the subdivision could eventually enable denser development on a vacant back parcel, but officials stressed that any future building plans would face separate Planning Board review and public hearings.
