📰 News we're reading

• Gas leak causes evacuation of Mount Kisco schools (therecorder.org) — A ruptured high-pressure gas line in Mount Kisco last week forced the evacuation of Bedford Central's Mount Kisco Elementary and Hillside School students to Fox Lane High School as a precaution. Police, firefighters, Con Edison, and school staff coordinated road closures, building checks, and transportation until the leak was repaired and classes safely resumed, with the district planning a review of its emergency response steps.

• St. Mary's Katonah subdivision draws intense opposition (therecorder.org) — Neighbors in Katonah are pushing back against St. Mary's Church's plan to subdivide its Valley Road property, even though Bedford's Zoning Board of Appeals has now approved the needed setback variances. Residents worry the move clears the way for dense future development and raises questions about sewage capacity and traffic, but any actual building plans must still go through separate Planning Board reviews with more public input.

• Pound Ridge lawyer wants Purple Plains' license revoked (therecorder.org) — A Pound Ridge attorney is asking state cannabis regulators to revoke the license of Purple Plains, arguing the majority owner lacks the required sole control under New York's equity rules. The dispensary's owner previously told Bedford & New Canaan Magazine he qualified through a past marijuana arrest, and the shop has generated about $150,000 in shared tax revenue for the town while operating without reported local problems.
