Merrick Avenue Hosts Tourney for Relay for Life
Bellmore-Merrick students host knockout tournament to raise money.
Students at Merrick Avenue Middle School, in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, participated in a basketball tournament to help raise funds or Sanford H. Calhoun’s Relay for Life event scheduled for next spring.
Just before the middle school’s basketball game against inter-district rival Grand Avenue Middle School on Dec. 12, members of the team and other students gathered in the gym to take their shots at winning the Knockout tournament. One by one, each student would shoot a basket until they missed. The last student remaining won the tournament. The winner of the tournament was seventh-grader Frank DiGiovanni.
Outside the gymnasium students at Calhoun High School sold T-shirts to raise money for the April 24 event.
