Montauk Featured In New Showtime Series 'The Affair'

The show featured several prominent Montauk landmarks in its pilot episode which aired on Sunday.

A new series on Showtime, The Affair, which aired on Sunday, Oct. 12. features scenes and references to Montauk.

The series is about ”the psychological effects of an affair between a married waitress at a Hamptons diner and a teacher who spends his summer at his in-laws’ estate on the island”, according to imdb.com.

The series stars Dominc West (300 - 2006, The Wire - 2002, Chicago - 2002), Ruth Wilson (Saving Mr. Banks - 2013, The Lone Ranger - 2013, Locke - 2013), Maura Tierney (The Good Wife - 2012/2013, Rescue Me - 2009/2011, Law & Order - 1990, Growing Pains - 1985), Joshua Jackson (Fringe - 2008/2013, Dawson’s Creek - 1998/2003) and Julia Goldani Telles (Nurse Jackie - 2014, Bunheads - 2012/2013), according to imdb.com.

The first season was filmed almost entirely in Montauk, β€œshowcasing the area’s beaches, dunes, and slower-paced way of life,” according to an article on jaunted.com.

The show prominently featured three Montauk landmarks, listed on jaunted.com:

  • The Lobster Roll - This famous Long Island diner on Montauk Highway is renamed β€œLunch” in the series’ pilot and is the location where Noah (West) and Alison (Wilson) - who eventually become entangled in the affair - first meet.
  • Deep Hollow Ranch - The Deep Hollow Ranch is also featured in The Affair as Cole’s (Jackson) family’s place. In real life, the ranch is owned by the Keogh family who welcome visitors to ride their trials or take an educational tour.
  • Montauk Point Lighthouse - Montauk’s most iconic spot, the Montauk Point Lighthouse, also plays a role in the show. The national historic landmark and museum is open year-round for tours.
