Levittown Students Showcase Career and Tech Skills

Students from Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center compete for awards.

Students enrolled at Levittown’s Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center competed for awards during the annual skills showcase held at Levittown Memorial Education Center.

Orchestrated by the center’s teachers and staff, the event provided students with the opportunity to demonstrate acquired skills for potential employers and colleges, as well as parents and administrators.

GC Tech is a unique school program dedicated to teaching comprehensive career and technical skills, along with qualifying academics, for students enrolled in the Levittown School District and several other neighboring districts. The program offers courses in the areas of automotive technology, computer animation, cosmetology, culinary arts, electrical technology, graphic arts, medical assisting/healthcare and police science/EMT.

During the showcase students competed in the areas of automotive technology, 3-D visualization and animation, commercial banking, cosmetology, criminal justice, culinary arts, first aid, food preparation assistance, graphic arts, job demonstration, job interview, junior evening hairstyling, medical assisting, residential wiring, restaurant service, senior evening hairstyling and senior nail art.

Spectators also enjoyed demonstrations of mock police arrests, forensic investigations and fantasy hairstyling.

“This is an evening when students demonstrate the skills they have acquired through study and practical application,” Director Gerri Fox-Wilson said. “Everyone who participated was clearly a winner.”
