Trooper Saves Choking Boy on Southern State

Six-year-old suffered a seizure from having the flu and stopped breathing before trooper arrived, cops said.

A New York State Trooper saved a young boy who was choking after suffering a seizure on the Southern State Parkway, NYS Police said Tuesday.

On Jan. 3 at 6:35 p.m., troopers said they received a frantic 911 call from a woman “screaming hysterically.” While they could not get any information about the nature of her emergency, they found out she was near Exit 25 on the Southern State, police said.

Officer Christopher Nolan responded and found a car parked on the right shoulder of the exit ramp. The 31-year-old driver was clutching her six-year-old son, who had a blocked airway, cops said.

Nolan quickly placed the boy on his back and tilted his head up to open the blocked airway, cops said. The boy began vomiting but Nolan kept his airway open until a North Bellmore EMS ambulance responded, cops said.

The boy’s mother explained that he had been fighting the flu and had a fever of 107 degrees. He had suffered a seizure and stopped breathing just before she called 911, police said.
