Woman Dies After Being Hit by Car in Bay Shore

A 66-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car as she attempted to cross 5th Avenue in Bay Shore Tuesday night, police said.

According to police, Ishwer Wadhwa, of Bay Shore, was crossing 5th Avenue near Bailey Avenue when she was struck by a 2000 Nissan Maxima that was traveling southbound on 5th Avenue at 8:47 p.m.

Wadhwa was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the vehicle, Jerson Ventura, 32, of Wyandanch, drove to the Third Precinct to report the crash. No criminal charges have been filed.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555.
