Massapequa Students Do-Si-Do During Hoedown
McKenna Elementary hosts third annual All-American Hoedown.
Dressing the part with cowboy hats, plaid shirts and bandanas, McKenna Elementary School students put on a square dancing show in front of hundreds of parents and friends at the Third Annual All American Hoedown.
Students learned how to square dance in their physical education classes as a way to develop teamwork skills, rhythm, auditory processing and large motor skills, according to physical education teachers Kieran O’Brien and Karen Flynn.
The dancers were prompted or cued by a caller, to follow a sequence of steps that went along to the beat of the music. The hoedown was judged by staff members and 24 winners who performed and dressed the best were treated to a lunch at All American Hamburger.
