Massapequa Superintendent Addresses Concerns Over YMCA Dismissals

Superintendent Lucille Iconis released statement regarding concerns raised by parents this week over protocol.

Massapequa School District Superintendent Lucille Iconis released a letter this week for parents of children in the after school YMCA Child Care Program.

She wrote, according to the district website:

Over the past week the district has received a number of parent concerns about revising dismissal protocols to the after school YMCA Child Care Program. Please be advised that the district respects your concerns and is currently working on a proposed solution. The solution both addresses the need for improved student accountability and safety at dismissal as well as accommodating parent requests for alternate dismissal for YMCA students who are eligible for a school bus.

In the upcoming week, I will be meeting with building principals and the YMCA Program staff to develop dismissal protocols that hopefully can achieve both of these goals.

Thank you for your concerns and patience.
