Ole! Massapequa Spanish Students Earn National Medals

A total of 29 Massapequa High School students earn high performance medals on National Spanish Exam.

Twenty-nine Massapequa High School students —almost double the amount from last year — earned medals for high performance on the National Spanish Examination, qualifying them to apply for scholarships or travel awards to Spanish-speaking countries.

Seniors Vincent C., Adriana F. and Bridget K. were awarded bronze medals for achievement on the level 5 exam. On the level 4 exam, juniors Giogia P. earned a gold medal, Sean F., Tanner K., Kaitlyn L., and Juliet R. received silver medals and Olivia A., Raymond C. and Suzanna S. earned bronze medals.

On the level 3 exam, sophomores Catherine T. won a gold medal, Ruchy A., Emily C., Alex G., Brian M., Kelly M., Alison M. and Daniel U. earned silver medals and Danielle A., Carmyn B., Julianna H., Alissa L., Sabrina M., Natalie M., Ariana P., Breanna R., Jamie S. and Luciana V. received bronze medals.

The National Spanish Examination is an online assessment administered by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) to promote proficiency and assess a national standard. The exam was taken by more than 152,000 students in grades 6-12.

“We are delighted to see so many of our students demonstrate proficiency on these exams and commend their teachers for their outstanding guidance and preparation,” said William Anderson, curriculum associate for World Languages.
