Bronx Man Charged In Mount Vernon Gas Station Robbery That Led To Shootout With NYPD: DOJ (patch.com) — Mount Vernon residents are learning more about a 2025 gas station robbery that disrupted a morning routine and sparked a multi-agency manhunt from the city into the Bronx and Pennsylvania. Federal prosecutors say a Bronx man has now been arrested in the Poconos and faces serious robbery and firearms charges tied to the armed holdup in Mount Vernon and the ensuing confrontation with NYPD officers.
   

2. 'A Disgrace to All Police' Mt. Vernon Dept. Police Commissioner Arrested for Attempted Murder (yonkerstimes.com) — Mount Vernon's former Deputy Police Commissioner of Wellness has been fired after Bronx prosecutors charged her, her husband, and their son in an alleged courthouse shooting plot. City officials are defending their hiring process while residents question oversight and call for stronger accountability. The police department says its wellness unit will continue operating and is not implicated in the alleged crime.

Mayor Patterson-Howard highlights Mount Vernon's role in shaping the state's new Cannabis Honestly campaign, while state officials tout equity-focused licensing, expunged convictions, and a crackdown on illegal shops across Westchester and beyond.
   

4. Hudson Valley Motorist Charged In Crash That Killed CT Man: PD (patch.com) — A Mount Vernon resident has been charged in connection with a 2025 crash on I-684 in Southeast that killed a Connecticut man. State police say the driver lost control, hit a guiderail, and collided with another vehicle, causing both cars to overturn. The defendant faces serious felony charges and is due back in court this fall.
