Groppelo's Says Goodbye to Port Washington

A restaurant in Port Washington that was known for its Italian dishes has packed up its boxes.

Groppelo’s has closed, Newsday reported Thursday.

The restaurant, located at 55 Shore Road, has a 3.5 star rating on Yelp.

• Crystal C. from Fresh Meadows said: “If you want to sit out ide by the water to eat. This is the place to go . There pizza is yummy and a good size .. Wine and pizza can’t go wrong. I really enjoyed there antipasto.”
• Barry K. from Douglaston said: “A hidden gem in Port Washington.! Exciting gourmet food and service in a charming environment. We sampled homemade pasta , a terrific caesar salad, and fresh and delicious Filet of sole. that was simply out of this world. Maury, the owner, is a delightful, and knowledgeable restaurant pro, & worked his way up from the kitchen. Maury loves meeting new clients and exceeding their expectations.The restaurant has a very nice selection of excellent Barolo wines. Soft Jazz music, wonderful view of the waterfront, and outdoor seating when the weather gets warmer. A great place for the entire family at reasonable prices!”
• Stephany C. from Williston Park said: “Went there my first time with my mom and the experience was horrible. The bread is weird looking and we had ordered salads. The salads were so plain it lacked professionalism. These salads weren’t mixed and had a poor appearance. And the portion was so small, that it didn’t match the price. That gave the impression that they didn’t have enough food because when we sat next to another table, we saw a customer who had two slices of tomato and Mozzarella and the plate looked too big for that portion. This place lacked professionalism and service.”
