2 Men Shot And Killed In Crown Heights Within Hours: Cops

A 39-year-old and a 17-year-old were fatally shot hours apart on Friday, adding to a shooting surge in the neighborhood and across the city.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Two people were shot dead just hours apart in Crown Heights on Friday during another night of gun violence in the neighborhood.

Police first found Ancil Blackman, 39, shot in the face in front of a house on President Street near Rogers Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Blackman was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The spot cops found him shot was next door to his home, records show.

The two killings are the latest in a shooting surge in the neighborhood as the officials face a citywide spike in gun violence.

Most recently in Crown Heights, a 22-year-old was gunned down near the Kingsborough Houses, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot after a dispute near a bike shop and a 30-year-old was killed when a shooter opened fire in his car.

Police believe the shooting that killed the 30-year-old had spilled over from a shooting from earlier that day on President Street, where at least four people were hurt.

Activists have held a "Cease Fire Peace Walk" and "Stop the Violence Town Hall" in Bed-Stuy hoping to address the shooting surge in the area.

Citywide, shootings have spiked 200 percent in the last few weeks, compared to the same time period last year. North Brooklyn has been a particular hot-spot for the gun violence, seeing more than 82 shootings in the last 28 days compared to just 13 during the same period in 2019, according to NYPD data.
