Riverhead High School Hosts Harlem Wizards Basketball Fundraiser
The event raised over $10,000 for the Riverhead Central Faculty Association scholarship fund.

The Harlem Wizards basketball phenomenon returned to Riverhead again this year. As the Harlem Wizards’ announcer, Big Show Joe, so aptly stated, “The Harlem Wizards put the ‘fun’ back in fundraisers.”
Gregory Wallace, who coordinated this fundraiser, recently emailed this message, “Thank you to everyone who helped make the RCFA scholarship fundraiser a resounding success. Gregory Wallace, who coordinated this fundraiser, recently said in an e-mail. “The event was attended by over 1,100 members of the community, nearly 75 RCFA members, administrators throughout the district, as well as members of the Board of Education. We raised more than $10,000 for the RCFA scholarship fund, a significant increase over last year.”

The highest level sponsorship, the Slam Dunk, was held by Stacey Braun Associates. Other sponsors included RiverheadLocal, Duffy’s Deli, Hilton Garden Inn of Riverhead, Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices of Riverhead, Riverhead Building Supply, Joe’s Garage, Mirkin & Gordon P.C., Skydive Long Island, Neefus Stype Insurance Agent Chip Puccio, CGAA Registered Investment Advisors, Advanced Orthopedics, Decision 2000, Revco Lighting + Electrical Supply, East End Asphalt, Home Town Electric, and Sele-Dent. Peconic Bay Apparel, Riverhead Country Day School and OfficeMax added their sponsorship support as well.
About a month prior to the game itself, Harlem Wizard King Arthur Lewis, Jr. visited the schools to present an anti-bullying message to the elementary students, who look up to him.

“One of the biggest messages from my story is that I’m small,” Lewis said. “A lot of people told me that my dream was dumb. ‘No way you’re going to play basketball, not high school, not college and definitely not professional’ they told me. But look at me now. If you give 100% and try everyday to be the best and really own what you want to do, the sky’s the limit.”
