Cops: 2 Freeport Armed Robberies May Be Related

Incidents happened Monday night and Tuesday morning, cops said.

Two robberies that happened hours apart from each other in Freeport Monday night and Tuesday morning may be related, according to Nassau County Police.

In both incidents, the victims were approached by a group of men, one of whom had a black handgun and made demands for cash, cops said.

Detectives believe the two robberies may be related but have not yet confirmed their theory, officials said Tuesday.

At 11:25 p.m. Monday, a 49-year-old man was walking near Bedell Street and Pierrepont Street when he “heard the sound of footsteps running behind him,” police said. He spun around and was confronted by four men with their faces covered, cops said.

One man had a black handgun and demanded money from the victim, who cooperated and handed over cash, police said.

The group fled south on Bedell Street and west on Pierrepont Street on foot, cops said.

At 1:45 a.m., a couple was walking on North Brookside Avenue and Meadow Lane when they were approached by five men, police said. Similar to the first robbery, one of the subjects had a black handgun and demanded cash, cops said. The victims cooperated and handed over cash, personal documents, credit cards, and an iPhone 6, police said.

None of the three victims were injured in the robberies, cops said.
