• Art at the Edgewood Cottage returns for a month of creativity and connection (wataugademocrat.com) — Edgewood Cottage in downtown Blowing Rock is hosting a free, rotating Artists in Residence program from Sept. 28 through Nov. 1, featuring new artists each week. Visitors can watch demonstrations, meet creators like Blowing Rock-based painter Jack Hamrick, and buy original work daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., making it an easy arts outing close to home.

• Saved from the fire: Underwood shares Dougherty House story with Heritage Museum (wataugademocrat.com) — A recent Watauga County Heritage Museum meeting in Boone celebrated Wayne Underwood, who rescued the historic Dougherty House and moved it down Blowing Rock Road to Mystery Hill in 1989. His efforts helped create the Appalachian Heritage Museum, which now partners with the county museum to showcase Dougherty family history and rotating exhibits representing communities across Watauga, including the Blowing Rock area.
