3. Rumble strips, pavement markings to improve safety on U.S. 321 (wataugademocrat.com) — If you're driving between Boone and Blowing Rock, expect nighttime slowdowns as NCDOT contractors install rumble strips and new pavement markings on a five-mile stretch of U.S. 321. The work, aimed at alerting drowsy or distracted drivers before they drift off course, will continue nightly as weather allows, so Boone motorists should plan extra travel time and stay alert in the work zone.

4. UNC Health Appalachian and MAHEC Lecture Series honors legacy of Dr. Charles Baker (reflector.com) — A new UNC Health Appalachian and MAHEC lecture series, linked to the Boone-based family medicine residency, is honoring longtime High Country physician Dr. Charles Baker by focusing on the human side of health care. Local clinicians and trainees will be invited to explore how stories, art, and relationships shape better patient care, continuing Baker's decades-long commitment to rural communities.

5. App State professor's new book asks: Can you eat outside the industrial food system? (Copy) (wataugademocrat.com) — An Appalachian State professor has used Boone as his real-life test case for whether a typical small town can help someone eat ethically and locally outside the industrial food system.
