• Outer Banks visitors sleep in cars while waiting for ferry (myfox8.com) — Rodanthe residents saw long lines of drivers sleeping in their cars while waiting for the emergency ferry after NC12 closed from storm damage. Locals stepped up with food, coffee, and support for stranded visitors, even as many worried about long-term flooding solutions and tried to catch flights or salvage the end of their vacations. 
• NCDOT hopes to open section of NC12 to regular two-way traffic early next week (outerbanksvoice.com) — NC12 near Rodanthe is on track to return to normal two-way, free-flowing traffic by Tuesday, Oct. 6, after storm damage forced detours and emergency ferry service. NCDOT has ended the Rodanthe–Stumpy Point emergency ferry, rebuilt dunes, and is laying new asphalt, aiming to finish key paving work this weekend if weather cooperates.
