DOYLESTOWN, PA — In the wake of Wednesday's destructive storm, schools and local and county government offices were closed in Doylestown, and "major" traffic issues should be expected due to road closures and ongoing power problems, officials said.

In addition to Doylestown Borough offices, all Bucks County offices are closed.

Central Bucks West High School, Lenape Middle School, Doyle Elementary, Pine Run Elementary, and Linden Elementary are all closed as well due to power outages.

A suspected tornado whipped through the area early Wednesday evening, scattering debris, knocking down trees, and bringing severe thunderstorms and rain to the area.

As of early Wednesday, around 1,763 Doylestown Borough residents remained without power, according to PECO.

The storm also knocked down wires in Doylestown Borough, some of them potentially live, officials warned Wednesday night. Residents were urged not to venture outside if possible.

Several roads remain closed on Thursday as PECO and local borough crews work to restore power:

  • East State Street (East to Pine)
  • Maple Avenue (East to E State)
  • East Court Street (East to Spruce)
  • East Ashland Street (E State to Pine)
  • East Oakland Avenue (E State to Pine)
  • Church Street (E Ashland to E Court)
  • Cottage Street (Linden to E Court)
  • Linden Avenue (East to Linden Elementary)

Pedestrians are urged to also avoid those areas. Closures are likely to last through the day.

Drivers entering the Doylestown area should use the 202 and 611 bypasses, the borough said.
