NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A woman escaped injury Friday morning when her car left the road, jumped the curb, and crashed through a support pier in front of Oishi and Body20 at the Village at Newtown Shopping Center.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. during a busy Black Friday at the Eagle Road shopping center. The black Audi with out-of-state plates came to rest just inches from the building after crashing through the pier, much of which landed on the hood of the car.

The Newtown Township Police Department, Newtown Fire Rescue, and the Newtown Ambulance Squad responded to the scene.

"I jokingly said, 'Oh, did someone crash their car into the building?' One of the customers looked out the window and said, 'Yes, actually they did.'

"My manager ran out of the store first and I followed soon after to make sure everything was okay," said the employee. "At that point the lady was already getting herself out of the car."

According to witnesses at the scene, the driver appeared to be shaken, but not seriously hurt in the crash. It was not immediately known if she suffered any injuries.

Firefighters spent more than three hours at the scene using rescue tools to free the car from the debris. The car was eventually removed from the scene by Bethman Auto Center.

The extent of the damage to the shopping center building was not immediately known. The vehicle appeared to have sustained heavy front-end damage.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Editor's Note: A Body20 is one of the businesses impacted by the crash. An earlier version of this story misidentified the business name.
