Drug Seizures, Fraud Incidents Reported In Newtown Township
Police activity includes a traffic stop leading to drug seizures and multiple reports of fraud attempts against residents, businesses.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Newtown Township police reported several incidents in late January and early February, including drug seizures and investigations into deceptive practices.
- On Jan. 30, at approximately 2:15 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of an Acura SUV near the Newtown Bypass and State Street. The stop was initiated due to a vehicle code violation. During an investigation, officers discovered and seized suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Charges are pending.
- On Feb. 2, at approximately 12:15 p.m., police were dispatched to a home regarding a fraud report. A resident, who operates a home business, informed police that an individual attempted to defraud her clients. The perpetrator sent emails using the business’s letterhead requesting wire transfers to false bank accounts. The clients recognized the discrepancy in the email addresses, and none fell victim to the scheme. The incident was documented to address any potential future losses or further fraudulent activities.
- On Feb. 2, at approximately 6 p.m., police responded to a Bristol Township residence. They met with Bristol Township Police, who had a subject in custody based on an active warrant from Newtown. During the encounter, suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered on the individual. The items were seized as evidence, and charges are pending.
- On Feb. 4, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a Newtown resident stopped by police headquarters to report a fraud and theft by deception. The resident told police that he paid $4,000 online for tutoring services that were never provided. The report has been referred to detectives for further review and investigation.
