DUI, Domestic Assault Arrests: Newtown Township Crime Report

Police also seized suspected narcotics during traffic stops and investigated several reported thefts.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between March 20 and 26:

March 20

  • At approximately 5:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Rita’s Water Ice on Swamp Road after receiving a notification on the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, the driver was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Bensalem Police Department and transferred without incident.

  • At approximately 1 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford Mustang for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and State Street. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • At approximately 3:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford truck for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending evidence results.

March 22

  • At approximately 8 p.m., police were dispatched to a Wrightstown home for the report of a theft, not in progress. The investigation is ongoing.

March 23

  • At approximately 1:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Mercedes Benz for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Windy Bush Road and Skoures Lane. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

March 24

  • At approximately 11:15 a.m., a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report the theft of a trash bin. A report was made to document the incident.
  • At approximately 1:15 p.m., police were dispatched to a Newtown Township home for the report of an assault. As a result of the investigation, one subject was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and harassment.

March 25

  • At approximately 8:45 p.m., a theft from a storage unit in Wrightstown was reported. An investigation is ongoing.
  • At approximately 11:35 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Toyota SUV for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham Road and South Drive. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending.

March 26

  • At approximately 8 p.m., police were dispatched to a Newtown Township home for the report of an assault. As a result of the investigation, one subject was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment, and disorderly conduct.
  • At approximately 8:15 p.m., police conducted a pedestrian stop in the area of Swamp Road and Twining Bridge Road. As a result, the pedestrian was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department and transferred without incident.
