Questions
Why are you running?
I am running to give back to the district where my two sons graduated and make sure that the excellent education they received will continue to be offered to my grandchildren.
What do you see as the top issues facing the district and how do you plan to address them?
The top issue is maintaining an educational program that will ensure that ALL students are given the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful adults and good citizens. This can only be accomplished by implementing policies that ensure that the school district 1. Hires and retains the best teachers, 2. Provides a safe environment for all students regardless of their abilities or demographics, 3. Communicates effectively and regularly with parents regarding curriculums and most importantly, 4. Allows students the freedom to learn historical truths, build teamwork and collaboration skills and become critical thinkers.
What policies would you change, revise, delete, or retain, and why?
I would ensure that we not only have but implement and monitor the results of policies related to bullying, which parents have told me is a significant issue in our schools today. The Board must follow up from complaint to resolution, because every child must feel safe and supported in our schools. We also need to review and update the educational curricula to ensure that the district is keeping up with this changing world.
If elected, what would you fight to change or keep the same?
I think there is a need to improve communication between the administration, teachers, students and parents during these divisive times. It is always important to view a situation through each person’s perspective in order to come to a reasonable resolution.
