Proceeds will benefit Guru's Guardian Angels, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and sheltering stray animals around the world.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Guru’s Indian Cuisine owner Samarth Joshi and his aunt Priya Trivedi of Guru’s Indian Cuisine in Newtown are organizing a huge Diwali Party to benefit Guru’s Guardian Angels, the nonprofit launched by Priya last year that is dedicated to rescuing and sheltering stray animals around the world.
The festive festival of lights celebration will take place at Rafter’s, located at 101 Friend’s Lane in Newtown, on Saturday, October 19 from 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is $25 with 100 percent going to the organization.
Diwali, a centuries-old, traditional Hindu holiday, symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.” During this most significant Indian festival, people take part in gatherings, fireworks displays, feasts and prayer, and this year Diwali has a special purpose for Priya and her family.
