NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Newtown Borough Police Department is warning residents of a new email scam in which fraudsters are impersonating Newtown Borough police officers.

The scam involves sending fake emails claiming to be from the police department and alleging the recipient has an outstanding warrant or fine.

Police said the email may appear legitimate, but it is a phishing attempt to obtain personal and financial information.

"The Newtown Borough Police Department will never contact members of the public via email to demand payment or request sensitive information," police said.

Anyone who receives a fraudulent email should not respond or provide any information. Instead, they should report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and delete the email.
