NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — NextGen Rotary of Newtown will be taking it to the street today (Sunday, Sept. 18) for A Woman's Place, a shelter for battered and abused women in Bucks County.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. South State Street between Centre Avenue and Penn Street will be transformed into a fundraiser featuring free carnival games and activities for the kids, local restaurants and food trucks, live music and dance, information booths, and lots more.

“We’re excited to do this and we thank the borough and the police chief for helping to make this happen,” said Nathan Breece of NextGen, the young adult arm of the Newtown Rotary Club.

“First and foremost this is a fundraiser so we will be raising money for A Woman’s Place,” said Breece. “It’s also going to be fun. It’s a great time for the community to come out, meet some of the businesses in town, grab some food, enjoy the street and for the kids to have a great time
playing the games.”

A big change this year is that wristbands won’t be needed to play all the carnival games. “Kids will be able to play games up and down the street at no charge,” said Breece.

Each of the event’s more than 30 vendors has been asked to offer at least one carnival game or children’s activity at their booth. Last year they included everything from a record toss to balloon games, corn hole, bean bag throw, obstacle course and shuffleboard.

“We’re also going to have more food trucks and they will be up on State Street this year,” added Breece. “Last year we had them in a back parking lot.”
