Alleged Gunmen In Roxborough High School Shooting To Stand Trial

A judge Tuesday ordered Yaaseen Bivins, Troy Fletcher, Zyhied Jones, and Saleem Miller to stand trial in connection with the fatal shooting.

ROXBOROUGH, PHILADELPHIA — Four young men accused of opening fire on a group of teens, killing one, in Roxborough last year will stand for trial.

A judge Tuesday ordered Saleem Miller, 16, Troy Fletcher, 15, Yaaseen Bivins, 21, and Zyheid Jones, 17, to appear for trial in connection with the deadly Sept. 27, 2022 shooting outside Roxborough Hugh School.

Killed was 14-year-old Nicholas Elizalde.

Four other teens were hurt in the shooting that took place after an afternoon football scrimmage at the school ended.

Miller, Fletcher, Bivins, and Jones are charged with murder, firearms violations, attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

A fifth person, Dayron Burney-Thorn, 16, is also wanted on murder and related charges stemming from the shooting.

Burney-Thorn is a fugitive from justice, and the U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Bivins in August was found guilty on charges related to a July 2020 crash that injured a woman and killed her unborn child and was out on bail when the deadly shooting occurred, court records show.

And Fletcher, Jones, 17, and Burney-Thorne, are all implicated in the shooting death of 19-year-old Tahmir Jones on Sept. 26, 2022.

Miller, Fletcher, Bivins, and Jones are scheduled for formal arraignments on Jan. 31, court records show.

They are being held without bail.
