Teen Charged With Cranston Drive-By Shooting
The 17-year-old shot at a residence on Pleasant Street, police said.
CRANSTON, RI โ A 17-year-old was charged with a Cranston drive-by shooting, police said.
The teen opened fire at a residence on Pleasant Street about 1 a.m. Jan. 14, putting a bullet in a wall of the building, the Cranston Police Department said in a media release.
Officers located two 9 mm shell casings in the roadway, according to the release.

"Through video surveillance, Flock camera technology, and coordination with the Providence Police Department, detectives identified a white 2018 Hyundai Elantra bearing Massachusetts registration as the suspect vehicle," the release said. "The vehicle was determined to have been stolen in Providence prior to the shooting and was later recovered by police in Providence."
The shell casings recovered from Pleasant Street matched a pistol that had been recovered in a separate investigation, according to the release.

"Based on this evidence and additional investigative findings, detectives established probable cause to charge the juvenile male," the release said, and he was arrested by the Providence police.
The teen was charged with drive-by shooting, possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and firing in a compact area.

"This arrest marks the second shooting incident on Pleasant Street to be solved by investigators," the release said.
A 16-year-old from Providence was charged with firing into a residence on New Year's Eve.
A bullet penetrated an exterior wall of the home and entered a room where a toddler, was lying down, police said.

Col. Michael J. Winquist, the chief of the Cranston Police Deartment, credited detectives for "their relentless dedication and professionalism in solving both of these cases.โ
โTheir diligence ensured that those responsible for these reckless and dangerous acts were identified and held accountable," Winquist said.
