Gas Outage: Where Can I Eat In Newport?

A roundup of services available to residents during Newport's Gas Outage

NEWPORT, R.I. -- As Newport's gas outages rounds out its fourth day, National Grid has joined up with local restaurants and organizations to ensure hot meals are available to those affected.

Starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, meals will be available at several locations. Binge BBQ will have a tent set up at Pell Elementary School, FanTex-Mexical Tacos Food Truck will be at the Newport Police Station, and Poppy's Waffles Food Truck will be serving food at King's Park. All three will also serve lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

LoBro Tacos will also begin food service beginning on Friday. A location has not yet been announced.

In addition, breakfast and lunch have been available to affected residents at Florence Gray Center from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gaudet School, one of the city's main shelters, has box lunches available starting at noon. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center is providing meals as well.

The food pantry run by East Bay Community Action Program at 19 Broadway in Newport will be opened from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. A form of ID will be required.

Perro Salado restaurant announced it will be open on Friday and Saturday. Electric heaters and a wood fire will be going to keep guests warm at the back bar, and drinks will be served, along with chips and guacamole.

Anyone still in need of shelter can go to Gurney's Resort or Gaudet School for assistance.
