Carrie Fisher Sent A Cow Tongue In Classic Response To Sexual Assault

You have to love Carrie Fisher. Even in death, the iconic actress known for her candor and wit continues to give. And as thousands of women open up old wounds as they share their #MeToo stories of sexual assault and harassment in a social media campaign to upend the pervasive culture, Fisher's bold response to a sexual assault on her friend, Emmy-winning director and producer Heather Ross, may be a perfect antidote.

Fisher gave the man a classic tongue-lashing, in the literal sense, and warned that if his behavior didn't stop, he could expect more of the same, only worse.

As Ross described the encounter on Tuscon radio station 94.9 FM, she had a business dinner with a man she described as an Oscar-winning producer — no, it wasn't Harvey Weinstein, the movie mogul who was fired from the film production company he helped create after more than 30 women accused him of rape or sexual assault. But he was well placed in Hollywood, where many say a "casting couch culture" still exists.

Ross explained that in 2000, the producer picked her up in his car, pulled over shortly thereafter, and then climbed on top of her and began groping her.

"It wasn't anything romantic at all," Ross told the radio station. "It happened so quickly that I was ashamed of myself, I thought I did something wrong. I kept quiet for years."

After Ross confided to Fisher, her response was classic.

"I just saw (the unnamed producer) at Sony studios," Fisher wrote to Ross a couple of weeks after the encounter. "I knew he would probably be there, so I went to his office and personally delivered a Tiffany's box wrapped with the white bow. It was a cow tongue from Jerry's Famous Deli with a note that said, 'If you ever touch my darling Heather or any other woman again, the next delivery will be something of yours in a much smaller box.'"
