COVID Booster Shot Authorization Expected For Immunocompromised

If approved, the FDA will amend the emergency use authorizations for available vaccines to permit the extra doses.

WASHINGTON, DC — The authorization of a COVID-19 booster shot for some of the nation's most vulnerable people could be authorized in the coming weeks, according to a report by The Washington Post.

Approving a booster shot for immunocompromised persons would offer enhanced protection from the highly contagious delta variant, which now accounts for more than 90 percent of new cases in the United States.

In the coming weeks, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to review data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supporting booster shots for the immunocompromised. If persuaded, officials will amend the emergency use authorizations for the vaccines to permit the extra doses.
