Brandon Louie thought he was showing up at the Challenged Athletes Foundation's fifth annual Celebration of Heart event just to represent his wheelchair basketball team and to put on a brief demonstration.

But the 16-year-old Los Altos High School student — who suffered a sudden and rare spinal cord injury last July that paralyzed him from the waist down — ended up receiving a custom basketball wheelchair from the Challenged Athletes Foundation, capping off a night that raised more than $650,000 to support athletes with physical challenges.

Dog And Pig Besties Find New Home Together At Arizona Pig Rescue

A pair of unlikely best friends have found a new home together at Better Piggies Rescue, thanks to efforts from the Arizona Humane Society.

Timon and Pumbaa, named after characters from "The Lion King," came to the humane society after their owner was arrested on charges unrelated to animal cruelty, according to a news release from the society.

CA Resident Takes Home Orphaned Fox Kit After Mistaking It For Kitten

In a unique case of mistaken identity, a Rocklin resident got quite the surprise after police said a small kitten she rescued was quite a bit more like a baby "Swiper" than "Garfield."

The Rocklin Police Department said Monday that a local resident found the animal last week but later realized it was actually a fox kit. Rocklin is about 20 miles northeast of Sacramento in Placer County.
